A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop offshore of the southeastern United States within the next few days.
The system is forecast to form along the western end of a frontal boundary situated off the U.S. coast. While significant development is not anticipated in the short term, gradual organization of the system could occur as it drifts westward over the coming week.
Current forecasts indicate there is little chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next 48 hours.
However, environmental conditions may become somewhat more favourable later in the forecast period, giving the disturbance a 20 per cent chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next seven days.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, with activity typically increasing through the summer months.
