Significant storm to arrive on Christmas Day, followed by another on Saturday

Two weather systems will make travel difficult this Christmas season.
A storm will arrive on Christmas Day morning and will bring snow, strong winds, and possible rain to eastern areas of the province. By the afternoon, precipitation will reach the north coast.
There is some model discrepancy with the GFS model keeping rain offshore while the Canadian model brings a rain-snow mix to the Avalon Peninsula.
Snowfall amounts are expected to be between 15 to 25 cm for the Avalon and 20 to 35 cm for eastern and northeastern Newfoundland, and lesser amounts in other areas of central Newfoundland. If the Canadian model is correct, the Avalon Peninsula could see 5 to 15 mm plus the snow.
Winds will gust from 60 to 90 km/h over the Avalon and the north coast of the Island.
A second low arrives on Boxing Day evening and will take a similar track, but will be mostly snow, and the snow will be more widespread across the Island with strong winds and blowing snow.
