The wildfire near Kingston, originally measuring approximately 4,895 hectares this morning, has now estimated to have expanded to about 5,000 hectares.
Officials warn that the fire is expected to reach Ochre Pit Cove this evening.
The response has been ramped up: the full provincial fleet of water bombers, five helicopters, one bird-dog aircraft, and about 50 ground crew members are actively fighting the blaze.
The impact has already extended to additional structures, though specific details remain unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, the Martin Lake fire is being held, especially along its northern side, thanks to combined efforts from crews dispatched from New Brunswick and Quebec. They’re also focusing on the southwestern flank to safeguard cabins—fortunately, no impact on the highway has been reported.
The Holyrood fire, covering 22 hectares, remains stable and fully contained with no further growth.
In Labrador, a new blaze—likely sparked by lightning—has been detected 19 km south of Gosse Bay. A helicopter and ground crew are being deployed to assess and contain it.
Due to rising wildfire activity in Ontario, reinforcements from that province were delayed. However, a large-capacity helicopter, capable of carrying 1,000 gallons of water and contracted from Manitoba, is expected to arrive tomorrow.
