Precipitation has changed to ice pellets across the Avalon after snow overnight and early this morning. Blowing snow and strong winds will persist. From this morning until Saturday evening winds will gust between 90 and 110 km/h.
Snow will continue until early this afternoon across central Newfoundland. Once the snow ends, flurries and strong winds are expected to redevelop.
On the west coast of the Island, snow will eventually transition to snow squalls and snow squalls will continue for most of the weekend. For the West Coast, South Coast, Central, and Northeastern Newfoundland from White Bay to Fogo Island, snowfall amounts will range from 15 to 45 cm. Winds will gust between 70 and 100 km/h except 140 to 170 km/h in the Wreckhouse area and parts of the west coast, which are prone to downslope southeasterly enhancement.
Coastal areas of Labrador are also getting snow with Nain to Postville - Makkovik seeing 30 to 50 cm, 25 to 45 cm is forecasted for Rigolet to Lodge Bay, and 10 to 20 cm from Upper Lake Melville and Eagle River. Winds will also be strong.
