An area of low pressure will bring severe weather to Newfoundland on Tuesday and Wednesday.

For eastern and southern Newfoundland, heavy rain and strong winds are likely. Over 30 mm of rain is possible; the southwestern tip of the Island could see closer to 50 mm.

For central and the west coast, there is some more uncertainty as some models indicate a changeover to snow at times.

Across the Island, wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h are likely.

Some coastal flooding due to storm surge and large waves may also occur.

Ahead of the storm, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement.
