The Kingston fire has increased to 8,019 ha. The weather is more favourable for suppression today. Ground crews continue working to secure the southern boundary and construction on the fire break to the north of the fire is ongoing.
Similar to yesterday water bombers and bucketing helicopters will be working in the area, as well as Coast Guard helicopters. Twenty ground crew from Ontario, and provincial wildland firefighters continue working on the fuel break. Military crews and local firefighters are working within the communities on structure protection and putting out hot spots.
There was not much change in the Paddy’s Pond fire overnight. The fire is approximately 306 ha. Weather conditions are favourable today. Water bombers, a bird dog aircraft, bucketing helicopters, Coast Guard helicopters and ground crews are working on the fire.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department continues to provide ground suppression along the Trans-Canada Highway. Residents are reminded this is still a very active fire and to monitor official government sources for updates.
The Martin Lake fire grew to 2,160 ha and is approximately 16 km south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Weather conditions for aerial suppression are favourable, however extreme fire behaviour will limit ground crew activity. Route 360 (Bay d’Espoir Highway) will not re-open today and residents and travellers should be prepared for continued closure.
