Dangerous surf is expected along parts of Newfoundland’s southern and eastern coast as Hurricane Erin approaches.
Large waves, pounding surf, and higher-than-normal water levels are expected on Saturday along coastal areas of the Burin and southern Avalon Peninsulas.
Wave heights are forecast to reach between four and six metres, breaking as they approach the shoreline.
Erin will generate long-period swells capable of producing sudden, powerful waves.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay a safe distance from the water’s edge due to the risk of rapidly approaching surf.
