An area of low pressure will pass south of Newfoundland on Sunday night and will bring heavy snow, rain, and strong winds to portions of the Island.
For eastern Newfoundland, including the Avalon Peninsula, heavy snow will start late overnight on Sunday. The snow may transition to rain on Monday morning before changing back to snow Monday night. Snowfall amounts between 25 and 45 cm are possible. Some southern areas could see 10 to 20 mm of rain. Winds will gust between 80 and 110 km/h. Conditions will improve on Tuesday afternoon.
Parts of southern, central, and northeastern Newfoundland will receive 15 to 25 cm of snow with winds gusting between 80 and 100 km/h. Conditions will improve on Tuesday afternoon.
Coastal flooding is possible for eastern and northeastern facing coastlines from Cape Freels to the Burin Peninsula.
This storm will likely cause school closures on Monday, poor travel conditions, and delays or cancellations of ferry services.
