Your backyard thermometer is likely wrong, here's why

When it comes to measuring air temperature, it's not as simple as just putting a thermometer outside; there are several factors to consider.
The thermometer should be about two metres above ground and above grass. Putting it near buildings, pavement, air conditioners, or vehicles will provide an incorrect reading.
It should be kept shaded and never sit in direct sunlight. Sunlight can make readings several degrees too warm. For example, a thermometer on a sunny deck might read 30°C, but the true air temperature could actually be 24°C.
Backyard temperatures are often inaccurate due to mounting sensors on a house wall, placing them over decks or asphalt, exposing them to direct sun, or installing them too low to the ground.
