Winter storm set to hit Newfoundland

Most of Newfoundland is in for a winter storm on Thursday. This storm will bring snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain to most of the Island.


Western, central, and northern Newfoundland including parts of the northeast coast will see snowfall of 15 to 25 cm followed by 3 to 7 mm of freezing rain and strong winds overnight tonight and Thursday.


Thursday and Thursday night, significant rainfall is expected after a period of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain for the Southwest coast. Total rainfall of 15 to 25 mm is expected with possibly 50 mm in Burgeo - Ramea.


A combination of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain is expected for the east coast of Newfoundland. Potential snow and ice pellet amounts of 5 to 15 cm are possible and 2 to 5 mm of freezing rain overnight tonight until Thursday evening.
