Warm, Breezy Night Ahead for Much of Newfoundland as Showers Move Into Western Regions

Much of Newfoundland is expected to see a mild and relatively quiet night, though increasing clouds, gusty winds and developing showers will spread across several regions overnight.
Eastern Newfoundland, including the St. John's area and much of the Avalon Peninsula, is forecast to remain mainly clear through the evening before becoming partly cloudy overnight. Temperatures are expected to fall to between 10 C and 14 C, with southwest winds increasing to 20 km/h and gusting to 40 km/h in many areas. Fog patches are also expected to develop across southeastern and southwestern sections of the Avalon Peninsula.
Across central Newfoundland, cloud cover will increase overnight as a weather system approaches from the west. Areas including Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, the Bay of Exploits and Green Bay-White Bay can expect a chance of showers this evening, with more widespread rainfall developing after midnight. Overnight lows will range from 12 C to 14 C, accompanied by southwest winds gusting up to 40 km/h.
Western Newfoundland is expected to experience the most active weather overnight. Showers will become widespread across Bay St. George, Corner Brook, Gros Morne and surrounding areas, with periods of heavy rain possible late this evening and overnight. Rainfall amounts of 10 to 15 millimetres are expected, although localized totals could exceed 30 millimetres in the heaviest downpours. There is also a risk of thunderstorms overnight.
Meanwhile, the Great Northern Peninsula and Strait of Belle Isle regions will see persistent showers overnight, with rainfall amounts generally between 5 and 10 millimetres. Fog patches are also expected to develop, while southwest winds will continue gusting between 30 and 50 km/h.
Temperatures across the province will remain relatively mild overnight, generally ranging from 10 C to 14 C, with the warmest readings expected in western and central regions.
In western Labrador, including Labrador City, Wabush, Churchill Falls and the Churchill Valley, conditions are expected to improve through the night. A few lingering showers are possible early this evening before skies gradually clear overnight. Winds gusting up to 40 km/h will diminish this evening, with overnight lows falling to around 11 C.
Central Labrador, including Upper Lake Melville and the Eagle River region, will see periods of rain come to an end this evening. However, cloudy skies and scattered showers are expected to linger overnight, with a risk of thunderstorms early in the evening. Temperatures are forecast to remain mild, with lows near 14 C.
Along Labrador's north coast, unsettled weather will continue. Nain and surrounding communities can expect cloudy skies, periods of rain and areas of fog overnight. Northeasterly winds will strengthen to 20 km/h with gusts up to 40 km/h, while temperatures dip to around 7 C.
Communities from Hopedale southward through Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet will also experience cloudy conditions with periods of rain this evening, transitioning to drizzle, scattered showers and developing fog overnight. Temperatures will generally range between 10 C and 14 C.
Further south along the Labrador coast, including Cartwright, Black Tickle, Norman Bay and Lodge Bay, showers are expected through the evening before gradually tapering overnight. Fog patches will become increasingly widespread, reducing visibility in some areas. Overnight lows are expected to settle between 11 C and 12 C.
In southeastern Labrador, from Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair, showers will spread across the region this evening and continue overnight. Fog development is also expected, accompanied by southwest winds gusting to 40 km/h. Temperatures will fall to around 9 C.
