There are currently evacuation orders in effect for Small Point–Adam’s Cove–Blackhead–Broad Cove, Kingston, Western Bay, sections of Holyrood, and sections of Conception Bay South.

An evacuation alert has also been issued for the residents in the unincorporated area of Ochre Pit Cove. Residents are advised to be prepared to evacuate the community on short notice.

Those who have left Small Point–Adam’s Cove–Blackhead–Broad Cove, Kingston and Western Bay must register with Canadian Red Cross, either in person at the Persalvic School Complex in Victoria or by calling 709-729-0921. This applies even if residents take shelter elsewhere.

Residents in sections of Holyrood and sections of Conception Bay South must register with Canadian Red Cross, either in person at CBS Arena, 13 Graham Mifflen Drive, Conception Bay South, or by calling 709-729-0921.

The operation of drones in the vicinity of wildfires is illegal. To report a wildfire, call 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).

Wildfires are Canada's second most costly disaster.

It is important to have an emergency kit ready should the need arise to evacuate. Practice your primary escape route, as well as alternative routes out of your community. Stay informed of weather conditions and advisories, be aware of wildfire smoke.

There are steps you can take to prepare your home such as removing any fire hazards in and around your home, such as dried out branches, leaves and debris. Keep a sprinkler in good working condition available, have smoke detectors on every level of your home, preferably in every bedroom and test smoke detectors once a month. Replace batteries every 6 months. Replace the smoke detector every 10 years.

Know how to turn off the utilities in your residence. Local authorities may instruct you to shut them off.

Properly seal windows and doors, consider purchasing one or more certified, properly-sized portable air purifiers, purchase a clean, good quality air filter for your ventilation system and air purifiers, and have extra filters available, reduce other sources of indoor air pollution and take steps to improve air quality in your home.
