After a stormy and wet Wednesday, much of Newfoundland is expected to see improving weather today, with sunshine returning to many areas and temperatures climbing into the low to mid-20s. Labrador, however, will remain cooler and unsettled with widespread showers.
Across eastern Newfoundland, including the Avalon Peninsula, morning cloud and lingering fog patches will give way to increasing sunshine. Temperatures will reach 23°C in the St. John’s area, with humidex values approaching 28.
Central Newfoundland is shaping up to be one of the warmest regions in the province. Gander, Bonavista North, Clarenville and surrounding areas can expect a mix of sunshine and cloud through the day, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-20s. Afternoon cloud development may trigger a few scattered showers, but most areas should remain dry for much of the day.
The Exploits Valley, Grand Falls-Windsor and Buchans regions will also enjoy mainly sunny conditions through the morning before increasing cloud arrives around midday. Highs near 21°C are expected, while Bonavista North and Gander could reach 24°C with humidex values in the upper 20s.
Southern Newfoundland, including the Burin Peninsula and Connaigre region, will see a return to sunshine after early morning fog dissipates. Inland communities may reach 21°C, while cooler temperatures persist near the coast.
Western Newfoundland will experience a more mixed day. Areas from Channel-Port aux Basques through Corner Brook, Deer Lake and Gros Morne can expect a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High temperatures will generally range from 18°C to 20°C.
Along the Northern Peninsula, skies will be partly sunny at times, although a few showers remain possible. Temperatures will hover near 18°C.
Meanwhile, Labrador will remain under a cooler and wetter weather pattern. Showers are expected across nearly all regions, including Labrador City, Churchill Falls, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, the north coast and southeastern Labrador. Daytime highs will range from 11°C in western and northern Labrador to near 19°C in parts of central and southeastern Labrador.
