Provincial Government Opens Second Round of Wildfire Prevention Funding

The provincial government has opened applications for the Newfoundland and Labrador Community Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation Program funding.

The program supports local risk assessments, fuel management planning, and mitigation activities.

An initial investment of approximately $2.26 million is helping 58 communities develop community wildfire resiliency plans and community-based wildfire prevention/mitigation projects.

The second round of funding will support additional communities across the province.

Communities are encouraged to apply for funding to develop and implement Community Wildland Fire Resiliency Plans. Applications will be assessed by the Newfoundland and Labrador FireSmart Committee with support from a technical sub-committee.

Recommendations for funding are based on whether the proposed activities qualify for funding under the parameters of the program, the quality of the application, and the value of the proposed activities to reduce the risk of wildfire for that area/community.

Applications are due by November 6.
