Province-Wide Fire Ban to End at Midnight Tonight

The provincial government has announced that the province-wide fire ban put in place on July 8 will be lifted at midnight tonight, allowing outdoor fires to resume across Newfoundland and Labrador beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

Residents are being reminded that forest fire season remains in effect throughout the province and that caution should continue to be exercised when having any outdoor fire.

Officials advise anyone planning a campfire or other open outdoor fire to check the daily Fire Hazard Map before lighting a fire.

While the province-wide ban is ending, restrictions remain in place in areas where the Fire Weather Index is rated very high or extreme. In those areas, all outdoor fires, including campfires, remain prohibited.

The government also noted that permits to burn brush and other materials continue to be suspended, while fireworks and sky lanterns remain prohibited in regions where the Fire Weather Index is rated high, very high or extreme.
