Heavy snow expected for eastern Newfoundland Sunday night and Monday

1 min read

An area of low pressure will move just east of the Avalon Peninsula on Sunday Night and Monday Morning and will bring heavy snow and strong winds to eastern areas of the province.

At this point, it appears as though the heaviest snow will fall across the northeastern Avalon Peninsula.

St. John's will likely see 15 to 35 cm of snow. That number has a large range because models are not totally in agreement, although over the last few runs, models have been trending more to the east, keeping the heavier snow offshore. Winds will gust to near 60 km/h over the Avalon.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected from Marystown to Clarenville. Gander will see 5 to 10 cm of snow. Grand Falls-Windsor will pick up about 2 cm of snow.
