The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands has updated the fire hazard rating for the St. John's Metro region.

The rating is now "high," which means fireworks are prohibited. This includes consumer fireworks.

When the fire danger is high, permits to burn brush and other materials are suspended. Outdoor fires, such as campfires, are permitted with conditions.

Activities on forested land should be conducted with extreme caution.

Use of fireworks and sky lanterns is banned.
