An area of low pressure remains on track to bring a significant amount of precipitation to most of Newfoundland tonight and Tuesday.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall across the Avalon Peninsula. Snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm are expected. Snow will change to ice pellets and freezing rain to rain on Tuesday. As temperatures fall on Tuesday night, rain will change back to snow.
On Tuesday, winds will pick up to with gusts from 60 to 70 km/h.
For central and parts of northeastern Newfoundland, 20 to 30 cm of snow is expected with wind gusts between 60 to 80 km/h.
Snowfall amounts of 20 to 35 cm are expected across southern areas of the Island with gusts between 80 to 90 km/h.
On Tuesday, there is a high likelihood of school closures and travel delays. Power outages may also occur, although this is not a high likelihood.
