The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season ends today.
This year, there were 13 storms in total. Of those storms, five became hurricanes, and four of the storms became major hurricanes, meaning a category three or greater.
On average, 14 named storms occur each season, with an average of seven becoming hurricanes and three becoming major hurricanes.
The most devastating storm this year was by far Hurricane Melissa, which is tied for the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record. The storm packed winds of 295 km/h. The storm had an impact on the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba, and elsewhere in the region.
Jamaica was hit the hardest; buildings were flattened and totally destroyed, there was damage to farmland and forests, and 45 people were killed.
There were 134 total fatalities, and damage is estimated to be near $10.555 billion (2025 USD).
