NOAA predicts below-normal hurricane season
(Image credit: NOAA) Forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are predicting a below-normal Atlantic hurricane season for 2026. The agency’s outlook for the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, indicates a 55 per cent chance of a below-normal season, along with a 35 per cent chance of a near-normal season and a 10 per cent chance of an above-normal season. Overcast conditions for most across NL today
It will be mostly cloudy across Newfoundland today with a few sunny breaks. Showers will end on the Avalon, and drizzle on the Burin Peninsula will also come to an end. Highs will range from 7 to 13. Northern coastal areas of Labrador will see snow this morning, with an additional 2 cm expected. There is a chance of flurries elsewhere across the Big Land. Expect highs from 3 to 6.

Rain expected across most of NL today
An area of low pressure will spread rain and snow across Labrador today. Most of the precipitation will fall as rain, with 10 mm expected in western areas and 10 to 15 mm in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay region. Highs will range from 2 to 5. Western areas of Newfoundland will see about 5 mm of rain today. Rain will start late in the day in the eastern areas of Newfoundland. Highs from 5 to 12 are expected.
