The City of St. John’s and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department are reminding residents that permits are required for most open-air fires within city limits as fire season gets underway. The reminder follows recent reports of fires in wooded areas and growing concerns about fire safety as warmer weather arrives. A colder and more unsettled Friday is ahead. Across Newfoundland, there are some showers this morning in parts of the west coast and central areas. The showers will end this morning, with sun and cloud expected this afternoon. A couple of millimetres of rain is possible on the Avalon. Temperatures today will range from 7 to 17. It's a completely different story across Labrador, where mostly sunny skies are expected with highs from 9 to 16.

It will be a beautiful and warm day across Newfoundland today. Most areas will see a mix of sun and cloud, with highs exceeding 20 degrees in a few locations in central. Coastal areas will be warm also. Sun and cloud is expected across most of Labrador; western areas could see a passing shower. Highs will range from 3 to 14.
